Catechism Search

So, I have several ideas running through my head right now, and thought I could implement one fairly easily: a Catechism search. Basically, I have found that in my copy of the Catechism, the Subject Index in the back is pretty pitiful. Half the subjects I look up are not present and half of the ones that are seem rather incomplete. For a while, I've been creating my own handwritten reference notes in the margins of my print copy. I figured other people may either be doing the same thing or feel a similar annoyance. This is the Church's teaching! shouldn't it be easy to find a given topic with relatively little effort? (Completeness and theological depth are another story altogether, but I think we should leave that topic alone--at least for now.) Yes, we can use online search tools to search the entire Catechism, but then we're often finding an obscure, unrelated reference to the word searched for. For example, I imagine searching for "sin" or "Jesus" would come up with far too many references to quickly find something--as is my biggest complaint about some Bible concordances, though I must admit I also love them. :)

So, what I was thinking was where I and others would blog to the point we could use the built-in google search in blogger. It wouldn't be normal blogging, with writing and such. Much more simple, more reference oriented. Each blog entry would have three things:
1) Title: this would describe the Subject for which you were searching for...e.g. "Works" (which is not in the Subject Index of my copy of the Catechism)
2) Body: this would just have a list of CCC references (ie. numbers) you found were particularly helpful on that Subject
3) Labels: this could be a sort of Related Topics section

I have blogged a few initial examples which you'll find below (problably incomplete, but demonstrating my initial idea). This way, using the blogger bar, if you search for "2005" it brings up the one entry for that...as does searching for "works". (Note that searching for 2007 causes a problem in that it also finds entries for the year, but I'm not going to worry about this for the time being.)

The biggest problem with this blogging approach is that it would be difficult to update existing entries. For example, if only two CCC references were listed, but somebody felt it should have a third...this could be kind of ugly. I suppose comments under the original entry would work, but this might not be ideal. I thought of creating a wiki for this purpose...but that would be a lot more work to create, to maintain, and to ensure people weren't generally trashing it. If you really think the wiki is a good idea, I need some ideas to about how to create a wiki. Never done that before. :)

Any ideas? I want to poll first, then I'll just create something. I'll probably just leave it a semi-open group, where people can join if they ask me to be able to create entries.

For now, I'm leaving this a private group, but feel free to invite others. I just don't want to open this up to a lot of spammers and stuff right now.
